Draw a random Bible verse about courage, with a short note on where it comes from and what it means.
Courage as the Bible describes it
Biblical courage is not the absence of fear. Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Jeremiah and Esther were all afraid, and the text says so. What changes their behavior is a reason to act: a promise that God is with them, a calling, or a moral line they will not cross. The command to be strong and courageous is almost always paired with the reminder that God goes with the person.
Different faces of courage
Some verses show courage in battle, as with David and Goliath. Others show quiet courage, such as Daniel praying when it was dangerous or Esther approaching the king unasked. In the New Testament, courage often means speaking truthfully under pressure, as Peter, John and Paul did before authorities.
