Draw a random Bible verse about gratitude and thanksgiving, with a short note on where it comes from.
Thanks as a habit in Scripture
Thanksgiving runs through the Bible, from Noah's altar after the flood to Paul's letters written from prison. Many psalms begin or end with a call to give thanks, and the repeated refrain that God's steadfast love endures shows what is being thanked for. Gratitude here is not tied to good circumstances; several of the examples come from people who were in danger or grief.
What people thank God for
The text gives thanks for rescue, for daily bread, for answered prayer, for other believers, and for creation itself. Jesus gives thanks before meals and before miracles. The New Testament letters often open with thanks for the readers before they raise any problems.
